Pumpkin Patch Tips for Social Distancing + Safety

“I’m so glad we live in a world where there are Octobers”

It’s pumpkin patch season y’all! With COVID still lingering around (unfortunately) we have found ways to still go to pumpkin patches while being safe and practicing social distancing. We want to make sure we are being careful while still participating in fall activities. I keep getting questions on what tips I could give families on practicing social distancing and safety while going to pumpkin patches, so here you are friends:

Found the Cutest Pumpkins in the Patch.

Things to Bring:

  • Masks for everyone (in California, kids under 2 are not required to wear a mask, but if the babies keep them on , great, let them keep them on!)
  • Hand Sanitizer
  • Pacifier wipes (Trust me , even if you have the pacifier clips they have a chance of touching surfaces)
  • Stroller or Wagon
  • Snacks
  • Water
  • Large Picnic Blanket
  • Small Pumpkins (See why below)
  • Sunblock
  • Hats

You both are the pumpkin spice to my fall.

Tips to Maneuver Through Patches

  • Get there early in order to beat the crowds and the heat (depending on where you live). We are in San Diego and the heat is unbearable.
  • If your kids are like mine, I would recommend bringing 1-2 pumpkins from home so that you don’t have to buy more than one for each kid. The kids always want me to buy a couple pumpkins at every patch we go to. They can be pretty expensive, so I always bring 1-2 pumpkins from home with me and hide them under the stroller. That way you only have to buy each kid one when it comes to buying some before you leave. I mix the new with the old so they think they are getting a few each for that pumpkin patch! Don’t judge me, those pumpkins are expensive. I think this is a genius idea! I almost always do this in order to avoid tantrums. Having more than one pumpkin always makes them happy for some reason, ha ! #MOMWIN
  • Bring your own snacks in order to save money!
  • Sanitizer is key. Kids are kids and will touch everything, so just keep sanitizing their hands. I also sanitize the pumpkins before they touch them (don’t judge, LOL) If they touch the pumpkins before I get a chance to sanitize them then I just sanitize their hands after we put the pumpkins in the stroller.
  • Petting Zoos are a must see! Sanitize their hands in between petting the animals and before they have a chance to touch their faces. Sanitize after you’re done as well.
  • Tips on how I encourage my 4 year old to keep the mask on the whole time . Our rule is: “if you want to be out here and have fun you must keep the mask on or we are going home.” Trust me, this statement alone makes her keep the mask on. She’d rather keep that mask on then not be able to get out of the house. I don’t blame her, ha! #MOMWIN
  • We like using the large picnic blanket to eat our lunch on. Sitting on hay while wearing shorts is not comfortable! Plus, I don’t think you can sanitize Hay, so I’d rather be precautious and sit on my own blanket. Also, if you plan on getting on a tractor hay ride, the blanket comes in handy for making the ride extra comfy.
  • Hats are key for hot weather. Right now we are in the first week of October with 100 degree weather.

This may sound like a whole lot of work, but it really isn’t. Let’s give our kids back some normalcy while being safe. Masks are not that terrible if you are allowed to still have fun. They have become part of our lives now, so as long as we practice social distancing and safety we should be able to still have fun.

Be safe and enjoy! xo , Dris

  1. Great tips for going to the pumpkin patch! I love going to pumpkin patches especially now with the COVID restrictions because you usually have a huge area where there is room to social distance and let the kids work off some pent up energy! It looks like a great time was had by all!

  2. SO cute! Thanks for the tips! I was thinking of going myself so these came in handy!

  3. Thank you for the heads up! This is so helpful as we head to our next patch this year!

  4. This looks so much fun! I can imagine how different it is this year to Pumpkin Patch but as long as we follow social distancing and other safety precaution, we can still enjoy doing it.. especially with the kids!
