Rainbow Backyard Fence

In a sky full of clouds be a rainbow.

It’s been about 8 weeks of being under quarantine and social distancing. As a Motherhood + Lifestyle blogger who takes photos of beautiful scenery on a regular bases of our adventures, it’s been quite tough to do so under the circumstances that we are currently in. So I decided to put my creative hat on. I love colorful backgrounds and I don’t think it gets more colorful than a rainbow, aimrite? I thought, how about we paint our backyard fence rainbow colored. I went on Pinterest for inspo on a colored palette and did my research on different paints to use. I told my husband that I would take care of this DIY and it would really bring some happiness so asked him if he didn’t mind if our fence was colorful, ha! He went for it, wahoo!

Somewhere over the rainbow, skies are blue and the dreams that you are to dream really do come true.

After much research, I went for the Valspar Exterior Base Paint . We have used it for outdoor projects before and it really lasted well. I went into Lowe’s and talked to an employee about my project. He helped me decide between the 25 color palettes that I had, ha! The other thing that he helped me with is he told me to paint the fence with a white base before adding the color to each fence panel. UM, THANK YOUUU. That was not part of my plan at all, so I was so thankful that he gave me that pointer! That is what I love about Lowe’s, they are so helpful with projects #notanAD. I just really love how they help you out, especially someone like me who is not experienced in large paint jobs.

Simple Steps:

  1. Apply 1-2 coats of your base white paint. Once again we used the Valspar Seasonal paint. We let it dry overnight.
  2. I had selected a 5 color palette I put together. Apply 1-2 coats of each color to each panel. Let dry 5-6 hours in between each coat.
  3. Tada, done! We finished this project over 1.5 days, but total hours of work = 3 hours.

Here are colors I picked from Valspar Paint .

  • Sonic Plum 4002-10C
  • Blue Turquoise 5006-10C
  • Spinach 6004-10C
  • Golden Treasure 3004-1A
  • Berry Blush 1004-1A

We have used our backyard rainbow fence for so many of our photos and it seriously is the most inexpensive and quick project to date! It has seriously brightened up the backyard so much. It looks quite good IRL. Hope this helps inspire you a little bit to go outside of your comfort zone and get creative with the space you have. If you have any questions on this project let me know. xo, Dris
